I’m an Interior Designer, and Here’s How to Shop for the Trends You’ll See Everywhere in 2025

Author:
As we welcome 2025, there’s likely something on your mind: How can I refresh my home to stay on trend in the New Year? I’m an interior designer who also works as a home shopping editor, so in both cases, a big part of my job is to pay attention to what’s happening in the home decor world, and there are three major trends I’ve noticed ramping up for 2025. First, the color brown—specifically warm, rich tones that feel cozy and luxe. You’ll also see tons of whimsical lighting and bold pattern and print mixing for a more maximalist look.

Important disclaimer: While keeping up with the latest and greatest in the home space is my job, my goal as a designer is to create spaces that reflect my clients’ personalities and interests and truly feel like them, not to simply chase trends. That said, keep in mind that trends are always coming and going, and you shouldn’t feel pressure to constantly embrace them. But when a trend comes along that you love, go for it—and don’t be afraid to hold onto it well past its supposed expiration date, either. If you love the things you put in your home (currently trendy or not) and you decorate with intention, I promise your space will look good.

Designer-Approved Amazon Picks for 2025

Trend 1: Warm Brown Color Palette

Amazon HORIMOTE HOME Thick Chunky Teddy Brown Knitted Throw Blanket
Amazon
$29 at Amazon

If you follow Pantone’s annual Color of the Year announcement (this year’s hue is Mocha Mousse), then this one should come as no surprise to you. Gray is officially the neutral of the past, and we’re moving onto warmer, richer brown tones. You don’t have to paint your walls brown to get in on the trend, though. This chunky knit throw blanket in teddy brown is an easy way to incorporate the color in your home without making a major change or spending a fortune, for instance.

You can also change up the look of your dining room with the gorgeous boucle d ining chairs below, which offer modern style with a cozy feel. And since area rugs set the tone of a room, this gorgeous multicolor rug lets rich brown be the star—and it’s machine washable.

Trend 2: Whimsical Lighting

Amazon EOEYYOYB Table Lamps
Amazon
$46$41 at Amazon

I have always been a fan of unique lighting with personality, whether that’s through pattern, color, or shape. And as someone who spends a lot of time on home decor TikTok, I’ve been overjoyed to watch maximalism—and in turn, whimsical lighting—take over. Flower-shaped lamps especially have been popping up at home decor stores more and more, and if you haven’t gotten in on the trend yet, 2025 is the time to finally embrace it.

The squiggle table lamp above is a toned down option in gold if you just want to dip your toes in, but you can go full force with the other bright, candy-colored options. Below you’ll even find some vintage-inspired styles making a comeback, like the flowerpot style lamp below that comes in nine different fun colors and is perfect for a mid-century-inspired space. And if you want to skip the floral inspiration, check out this set of two modern face-shaped lamps. (Bonus: Choose the brown shade option to incorporate two of this year’s trends.)

Trend 3: Bold Pattern Mixing

PANDICORN Block Print Throw Pillow Covers 18x18 Inch Set of 2
Amazon
$15 at Amazon

Pattern mixing has always been a thing in interior design, but with maximalism all the rage now, you’re bound to see spaces mixing bold, seemingly clashing patterns together more and more. The key to making this trend work? Choosing a color story that can weave all those patterns and prints together seamlessly. These product picks, for example, would go beautifully together in one space since they keep to a green, yellow, and white palette.

I love the block print pattern on the pillow covers above, and paired with a trendy, modern checkerboard blanket, they certainly make a statement. The golden yellow bird-print peel and stick wallpaper brings another layer of pattern to the mix on the walls. Of course, all three of these items can stand alone in your space, but combined they’re stunning and right on trend for 2025.
